why aftercare?

The first minute of freedom is not the end of the story for victims of slavery. Once they’re free, survivors must start over and rebuild their lives, with little or no support. Aftercare helps them move beyond their past and head into their bright future.

When survivors first escape, they are traumatized and oftentimes seen as outcasts from their friends, families, and hometowns. If they don’t receive the help they need, they may fall victim once again to slavery.

The needs of a survivor vary from immediate shelter to healthcare to extensive job training. Aftercare is about the long-term picture for survivors, ensuring that their story is one of hope and their freedom is lasting.
